U.S. Manufacturing Activity Reaches 18-Month High

Despite a resurgence in global Covid-19 cases, U.S. manufacturing activity continued to expand in July to its highest level in nearly 18 months.  According to the Institute for Supply Management’s national factory index, activity increased to a reading of 54.2 in the last month from 52.6 in June, marking two consecutive months of growth.

 

BMW & NVIDIA partner to implement artificial intelligence into its production processes.

Due to the high level of customizability in BMW’s vehicles, their Group Factory Logistics team manages 30 million raw parts per day, shipped from 4500 suppliers, to 31 worldwide factories.  BMW, who produces 10,000 cars every day, has turned to NVIDIA to implement AI into its production processes.  To improve BMW’s logistics workflow, NVIDIA will implement 5 AI-enabled robots to be used in factories:

  • SortBot
  • Smart Transport Robot (STR)
  • SplitBot
  • PickBot
  • PlaceBot

Marvell Wins capacity allocation from TSMC

Marvell has announced and extension of their long-term partnership with TSMC, to deliver a comprehensive silicon portfolio leveraging the most advanced 5 nanometer process technology.  Marvell has identified growth potential in 5G, and regards Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung among its 5G infrastructure customers.

 

Xilinx FPGAs replace ASICs in Subaru Eyesight Advanced Driver-Assistance System EyeSight

Xilinx announced that its FPGA technology is powering the next generation of Subaru’s Eyesight stereo vision-based Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) in the carmaker’s latest vehicle released today, the Subaru Levorg.  This new EyeSight system will promises advanced features including lane-keep assist, pre-collision braking, and adaptive cruise control.
